Program Highlights
While medical billing and coding is often regarded as the same job, they are actually two different activities. However, medical billers still need to understand coding language and how to interpret invoices. Through this program, students gain the training needed to serve as a vital member of a medical office or other healthcare facility. Campus students pursue and academic and career path as a Certified Medical Billing Specialist overssen by the Medical Billing Association while online students work to become Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialists from the American Medical Billing Association. The two distinctions pertain to post-program certifications and approvals as offer by each respective national organization. Both online and on campus students gain the same foundation of skills needed for career success as a medical biller. These skills include:
- Advanced billing and coding practices
- Key medical terminology
- Overview of healthcare delivery systems and the roles of healthcare professionals
- Rules and regulations around patient confidentiality
- Medical records management
